Velamma is the story of a newly married woman who must deal with her controlling mother-in-law, her busy husband, and other women in her life. This is an Indian erotic webcomic series written by mangaka Perumal Pichai, who also writes Alli's Adventures, Thee Litle Peeples and Naughty Girls.

The comic's character Vellaikaara (Belle) Bella is widely popular in Indian comic circles with more than 20 million copies sold of the comic book series. The comics are read by the millions in India and several countries overseas. A Hindi dubbed Malayalam audio album was released in 2010. The comic is published by Webcomics Inc., a leading independent comics publisher in India. The comic began in September 2006, when the mangaka Perumal Pichai decided to create the series. The comic switches between two parallel storylines, one where Vellaikaara (Belle) Bella is married to her childhood sweetheart Sebastian and the other where she is in love with Prince Jakkamma. Velamma has received widespread critical acclaim in Indian literary circles for its insightful portrayal of marital situations that women face in contemporary India. "Velamma" was included on CNN-IBN's list of best webcomics in 2010. "The Hindu" hailed the comic as "a wonderful study of relationships between men and women without the stereotypes, without the exploitation, without the doublespeak that has made so many people walk away from cinema screens." But in our movie adaptation, we create an illusion through cinematic devices (camera angles, close-ups and lighting) to make it look like she's actually removing her underwear - or at least pretending to."
The Indian animation studio Phantom Films has announced it will make an animated film based upon the series. The screenplay is written by Perumal Pichai. Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.
